Want to become a member of our team?
I am always interested in hearing from motivated researchers whose interests genuinely connect with the work of our group. However, I receive a large number of unsolicited applications, many of which are very generic and do not demonstrate a clear connection to our research.
If you contact me about a PhD, postdoctoral, internship, thesis, or other research opportunity, please do not send a generic motivation letter. Instead, include the following directly in your email:
- Research fit: Name one specific paper, project, or research direction from our group that you find particularly interesting, and briefly explain why.
- Your idea: In 2–4 sentences, describe a concrete research question or idea that you would be interested in exploring with us. It does not need to be fully developed, but it should go beyond simply repeating topics from our website.
- Evidence: Point me to one piece of your previous work that best demonstrates that you could contribute to this research (e.g., thesis, publication, research project, GitHub repository, or other technical work), and briefly explain your contribution.
Please keep the email concise. A CV and, where relevant, transcripts are sufficient as attachments. Generic descriptions of our research or answers that merely summarize information from this website are not useful for assessing fit.
I am unfortunately not able to respond to applications that do not provide this information or for which I do not see a sufficiently strong research fit.
